JFCS Highlights JHF-Seeded Efforts at Annual Meeting

The Jewish Family and Community Services celebrated their 8th anniversary at their annual meeting on May 18. At the event, Jewish Healthcare Foundation-seeded efforts were celebrated throughout, including The Squirrel Hill Food Pantry and UpStreet.

JHF funded the planning and start-up of the Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry, the only Food Bank Program in Western Pennsylvania that provides a full array of kosher foods. In addition to distributing food to immigrants, the elderly, and those in need, the small staff and volunteers also provide social support services.

JHF spearheaded bringing the concept behind UpStreet to Pittsburgh and ultimately provided the seed funding to create UpStreet, a service managed by JFCS providing an accessible online, text-based resource for Pittsburgh teens to receive mental health support from a licensed counselor, in addition to a peer mentoring program, training workshops, and teen mental wellness programming.
